"Profile" – Self Portrait
Artist Statement
I believe when we make things with care and attention — and indeed intention — we create magical and soulful items with personalities of their own.
When we continue to use and care for these items, they can help care for us.
I come from a long line of makers — blacksmiths, woodworkers, engineers, painters, quilters, and stitchers — whose works have supported that belief. That creativity is stored in my genetic code.
Untethered to a particular medium, I'm a professional artist working with metals and music, paints and pencils, signs and symbols, and words.
With creative passion, I lead high-profile content strategy, content design, and writing projects — at both fortune 100 companies and mom-and-pop shops.
Sigil of Creative Intent
Words and letters. Icons and logos. Signs and symbols. Marks.
Simple marks are the building blocks of meaning: Marks make letters. Letters make words. Words make meaning.
And meaning has power.
This sigil was a deeply personal project. With my intention to be creative carefully pondered, I used 9 simple marks to create a symbol designed to hold that intention. The result is a practical tool for unlocking my imagination.
I chose a backdrop of primary colors because they are the components from which you can make all other colors. I applied the colors to simple circle and triangle shapes because these are among the simplest yet strongest shapes on earth.
